AMY’S BIO
Amy has been one of the most successful and
consistent high jumpers in American history. Her success began
at a very young age when as a freshman in high school, Amy
jumped 6’, and did this without a coach! Her determination and
hard work propelled her to higher heights throughout high
school, eventually reaching 6’4” as a 17-year-old senior.
From there, she went on to become a collegiate
athlete at UCLA,. During her time as a Bruin, she set a
collegiate record (6’6”) and was a 4-time PAC10 Champion, 3-time
NCAA Indoor Champion, and 2-time NCAA Outdoor Champion. While
still at UCLA in 1996, Amy competed in her first Olympic Games
in Atlanta. After graduating with a degree in biology in 1997,
Amy went on to begin her professional career.
Amy has become a constant force on both the
national and international high jump scenes over the course of
the last 11 years. She has been ranked in the top ten in
the world numerous times, top three in the US thirteen times,
including being ranked number one at least three times.
She has competed in four Olympic Games, with a best finish of
4th
in Athens in 2004.
In addition to
all of her success on the field, in 2001 Amy began studying
acupuncture at the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin, TX.
and is now a licensed acupuncturist. She has her own practice
in Northern California, where she lives with husband Tye Harvey,
a silver medalist in the pole vault at the 2001 Indoor World
Championships. |
