SUZY’S
BIO
Suzy’s
dominance in the discus began back in high school, while
competing for Modesto, CA’s Downey High School, where she won
three straight California state titles. She also broke the
national high school record as a senior by throwing 188 feet.
Suzy moved on to collegiate athletics at UCLA, where she enjoyed
even more success at the college ranks. After her sophomore
year, in 1996, Suzy won the Olympic Trials earning a spot on her
first Olympic Team where she was the youngest member at only 19
years old. Besides the honor of being on the Olympic Team, Suzy
was also a six-time NCAA All-American and Pan-Am Junior
Champion.
After
graduating from UCLA, Suzy continued her success, qualifying for
her second Olympic Team in 2000 in Sydney. Over the years, she
has continued to improve and consistently stay on top as one of
the best American discus throwers. This includes being a
six-time senior national team member, two-time US Champion, and
in 2007 Suzy threw 67.67m (222’0”) to become the American Record
Holder. This throw broke an American Record that had stood for
21 years! Last year, in 2008, Suzy made her third Olympic Team
by finishing 2nd at the Olympic Trials. Hopefully,
with her consistency and experience, Suzy will continue to build
on her success and have a great 2009 season |
